No Goals in 2013
A year without goals? Really?
Ever since I was a little kid, every year I'd diligently make New Year resolutions. This year, I almost considered trying something new. Almost.
I've been spending a lot of time reading the archives of Leo Babauta's blog zenhabits. One post he wrote several years ago talks about a life without any goals. That the best goal is no goal.
Leo writes:
If you live without goals, you’ll explore new territory. You’ll learn some unexpected things. You’ll end up in surprising places. That’s the beauty of this philosophy, but it’s also a difficult transition.
He recently had a "debate" with another writer/blogger I love, Tim Ferriss (author of the 4-Hour Workweek), on whether goals are were worth having. Here's the video of that.
*Warning: One curse word comes up at the end.
So this year, I do hope to align myself more consistently with honorable habits. Small steps. Changes and adjustments to become the person I want to be. And I'll still have my goals. That's a habit impossible for me to break, I guess.
