Blowing Smoke
How a crisis develops:
1. A faint smell of smoke enters the room. Strange and unexpected. Noticed by a few, but quickly forgotten.
2. A noticeable blanket of smoke forms. Everyone starts coughing and the alarm starts to blare.
3. A person opens the window and another turns on a huge fan to blow the smoke out of the room. People stop coughing and the alarm shuts off.
4. The FIRE, unidentified, overlooked and ignored, blazes and spreads. Panic and destruction ensue.
Whether it be in terms of our health, our finances, or our spirituality; whether it be in our homes, our schools or our government, we tend to ignore the early warning signs of a crisis.
And when we do finally act, our efforts usually focus on the effect not the cause.
Acting early to address the important (while it still lacks urgency) gives us the best chance to live without fear, anger and sin.
