S.H.I.B.A.I.

The Honor Box eliminates the excuse "I can't afford it."

So the excuse I hear most often is "I don't have the time."

Which really means: "I don't value chiropractic enough to make the time."

I mean, if you really think about it, anytime under any circumstance, when we find ourselves making the excuse "I don't have the time" (and I am way guilty of this, too) what we are really saying is that we are unwilling to sacrifice, make changes, adjust and adapt-- to do whatever it may take-- to fit that thing into our schedule.  And we decide not to exert the extra effort because that thing just isn't important enough to us in our life at this time.

Going to church on Sunday.  Getting to the gym.  Reading with our kids.  Organizing the closet.

Getting adjusted.

Saying we do not have enough time is not a valid excuse.  Not if we really, really, really, value these things.

Let me prove it.  I never had this conversation before and never will, but it illustrates what I'm saying here.

Patient:  I'm sorry, Doc.  I can no longer come in and see you.  I'm just too busy right now and can't fit the time in my hectic schedule.  Kids back to school.  Sports.  My new job schedule and my volunteer work.  You understand, yeah?

Me:  I understand.  But man, that's really too bad.  Really a shame, because I just submitted your name for the prize.

Patient:  What?  What prize?

Me:  It was going to be a surprise for you, but there's a new organization called the State of Hawaii Institute for Backbone Adjusting Incorporated (or S.H.I.B.A.I.) and they just asked me to choose a winner from my group of patients for their award.

Patient:  Award?  What award? Some kind of certificate or something?

Me:  Actually, it's a cash award.  To perpetuate and encourage the local folks to keep their spines in healthy alignment, one person each year is chosen to receive a cash award of $75,000.00 as an endowment of gratitude and inspiration.  You were supposed to get the award this year and win the money, but because you can no longer make it in for your adjustments, I guess you are no longer eligible.

Patient:  Uh.  Uh.  Uh, Doc?  Uh, you know what?  I think I can juggle things around and keep coming in for my adjustments.

Funny, yeah?

When things get important enough, somehow we always can magically find the time.

VERY TRUE!!! We all do that...and sometimes we need a reality check as to why we are really making excuses not to do something. Thanks for keeping it real, as always!
