Best of The Best
Every year the Honolulu Advertiser runs a Best of the Best contest where their readers get to vote for their favorite local things, from shopping malls to dry cleaners to golf courses.
And one of the categories is best chiropractor.
Wow, if I could win this, what great free publicity I would receive! Not to mention, what a nice boost to my ego it would be to be called one of Hawaii's best!
So, at first I campaigned a little. I made copies of the ballot form and encouraged my patients to vote. Ethical, right? No bribes or coercion, just a friendly, "Hey, can you help me out here?"
But it didn't feel quite right. Not quite in line with who I am and who I want to be.
And then I rented the DVD, For Your Consideration. It's a movie about the making of a movie that begins to get some Oscar buzz-- and the comical, yet tragic, changes that start to ensue as these Oscar winner hopefuls compromise their standards, bit by bit, in order to better their chances of getting nominated for the Acadamy Award.
Have you ever laughed at the fool in a comedy while at the same time cringed deep inside, because you saw some of that fool in you?
Ha Ha Ha. Ouch.
Politicians campaign. Chiropractors adjust.
Let's leave it at that.
